Municipal Electronics was founded by Jim Gulley in 1970.
Mr. Gulley served in the United States Army from 1942 through 1964. He specialized in electronics throughout his career. During his service with the Army, Mr. Gulley was involved in 5 major campaigns during WWII where he was stationed in England, France, Belgium, Luxenburg and Czechoslovakia. He also served in the Korean conflict from 1950 through 1952.
Mr. Gulley worked for MuniQuip, which later became Decatur electronics, from 1964 through 1970.
After leaving MuniQuip, Mr. Gulley started Municipal Electronics.

In 1994, Municipal Electronics was incorporated and known as Municipal Electronics, Inc.
Jim Gulley has since passed away (April 10, 2010).
The company now known as Municipal Electronics Division, LLC is currently being operated in the same family tradition.
